On December 2, 2002 the International Research-to-Practice Conference “Bolat Sarybaev’s Heritage and Modern Ethno-organology”, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the musicologist, was held in Almaty. On December 2, 2002 the International Research-to-Practice Conference “Bolat Sarybaev’s Heritage and Modern Ethno-organology”, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the musicologist, was held in Almaty. KZ-today was informed about this event in the Humanitarian Foundation “Degdar”. According to the “Degdar” Foundation, B. Sarybaev devoted his life to the search for ancient folk instruments, their description, research of issues related to their origin, evolution and morphology. The scientist-musicologist was the first who tried to provide a scientific description and conduct comprehensive research of Kazakh musical instruments using ethnographic, archeological and linguistic investigations. The scientist found and reconstructed about 30 Kazakh musical instruments including dzhetygen, asatayak, saz syrnay, uskirik, and sherter. Nowadays many of them are actively used by musicians. B. Sarybaev left a collection of more than 150 ancient musical instruments.
